GIRLS' ADVISORY BOARD The main focus of the Girls’ Advisory Board is to hear the voices of girls: their experiences, their challenges, their successes, their dreams, etc. Then to share these with the Board of Directors so that the board is knowledgeable and mindful of the issues girls face today. Second, the girls will have an opportunity to be a part of our organization in other ways such as serving on committees, helping with marketing, or being part of our annual conference planning. This second purpose can grow as the vision of the girls’ advisory board evolves and changes. Third, we hope to make this amazing experience fun and girl-focused! In 2004 the planning committee for the 14 th Annual conference encountered significant challenges as many girl-serving organizations and programs experienced cutbacks, layoffs and closings. Concerned about dwindling girl-focused services, leaders of that MCAF planning committee wanted to create a c learinghouse of resources and information addressing the needs of girls in Minnesota. They contacted the Girls’ Coalition of Greater Boston, an organization that has been successfully serving professionals who work with girls since 1992. The Boston coalition provided key insights about creating a diverse consortium of organizations and individuals working together to encourage the healthy development of girls. Who can apply? How many positions are there on the girls’ advisory board? When, where and how often does the girls’ advisory board meet?
Who will be facilitating the meeting? How do you apply? Complete the application form and return by August 3, 2007. Please contact Sarah with any questions you may have. She can be reached at (651)267-3506 or email.
